Mission & Vision

Gueydan Flying Ducks

Small Town. Big Dreams. Championship Culture.

The Gueydan Flying Ducks were created with a purpose that reaches far beyond winning basketball games.

We believe a sports organization can become an important part of the community it represents. It can create opportunities for athletes, inspire young people, support local businesses, bring families together and give a small town something it can proudly call its own.

Our home is Gueydan, Louisiana, but our vision extends throughout Vermilion Parish and beyond.

We are building an organization centered around championship basketball, player development, professionalism, community service and opportunity. We want every person who comes into contact with the Flying Ducks — whether as a player, coach, fan, sponsor, dancer, volunteer, parent or young person — to understand that being part of Duck Nation means being part of something bigger than a final score.

Our foundation is represented by four values:

FAMILY • LOYALTY • DISCIPLINE • RESPECT

These values guide how we play, how we work, how we serve and how we represent Gueydan.

Our Mission

The mission of the Gueydan Flying Ducks is to build and sustain a championship basketball organization that develops players for opportunities beyond our program while positively representing Gueydan and Vermilion Parish through excellence, professionalism, community engagement and service.

We are committed to creating an environment where athletes can develop their basketball abilities, improve their understanding of the game, learn professional standards and prepare themselves for future opportunities in college, professional and international basketball.

At the same time, we are committed to building something meaningful for the community that supports us.

We want Flying Ducks basketball to provide entertainment, pride, opportunities and experiences for the people of Gueydan and Vermilion Parish.

Our mission is not simply to put a basketball team on the floor.

Our mission is to:

Develop players.

Compete for championships.

Create opportunities.

Serve our community.

Support local businesses.

Inspire young people.

Build a professional organization.

Represent Gueydan with pride.

And ultimately, build something capable of lasting for generations.

Our Vision

Our vision is for the Gueydan Flying Ducks to become one of the most respected small-market basketball development organizations in the region, recognized for championship performance, player advancement, professional standards, community involvement and an unforgettable home-game atmosphere.

We want Gueydan to become a destination for basketball.

We want players from Louisiana and throughout the country to recognize Gueydan as a place where they can come to compete, develop and become better prepared for their next opportunity.

We want coaches and basketball professionals to recognize the Flying Ducks as an organization that develops players the right way.

We want families throughout Vermilion Parish to look at Flying Ducks games as community events.

We want young people to grow up watching the Ducks and imagining themselves wearing a Flying Ducks uniform, performing with one of our dance programs, working for the organization or becoming future leaders in the community.

We want local businesses to see the Flying Ducks as a partner capable of helping bring additional attention and economic activity to the area.

And we want visiting players, teams and fans to leave Gueydan understanding that something special is being built here.

Our vision can be summarized by one simple belief:

Where you come from does not determine how big you can dream.

A Championship Organization

Winning is part of our identity.

The Flying Ducks established that standard during our historic undefeated 2025 NBL-United States championship season.

That championship will always be an important part of our history, but our vision is bigger than celebrating one successful season.

We want to establish a sustainable winning culture.

Championship culture means preparing to win before game day arrives.

It means arriving prepared.

It means practicing with purpose.

It means conditioning properly.

It means studying the game.

It means accepting coaching.

It means understanding your role.

It means sacrificing individual preferences when the team requires it.

It means responding correctly to adversity.

And it means holding yourself and your teammates accountable.

Our goal every season is to put a team on the floor capable of competing for an NBL-United States championship.

But championships are the result.

Culture is the process.

That process is what we are committed to protecting.

Developing Players for the Next Level

Player development is one of the most important parts of the Flying Ducks mission.

We want players to leave Gueydan better than when they arrived.

That development includes far more than scoring points or improving statistics.

Our objective is to develop the complete basketball player.

That means working on individual skills such as shooting, ball handling, passing, footwork, finishing, rebounding and defense.

It also means developing basketball intelligence.

Players must understand spacing, pace, defensive rotations, offensive reads, transition decisions, late-game situations and how to function successfully within a system.

But development goes beyond basketball.

We want our players to understand what it means to operate professionally.

That includes punctuality.

Communication.

Preparation.

Accountability.

Appearance.

Social-media responsibility.

Respect for coaches and teammates.

Handling criticism.

Understanding film.

Taking care of their bodies.

Representing sponsors and community partners correctly.

And understanding that opportunities can be created or lost based on behavior away from the basketball court.

Our responsibility is not simply to coach the player standing in front of us today.

Our responsibility is to help prepare him for the player and professional he wants to become tomorrow.

Creating Real Basketball Opportunities

The Flying Ducks operate within the larger NBL-United States development environment, giving our players an opportunity to compete while building material that can help support their basketball journey.

Players need more than someone saying they can play.

They need documented evidence.

That is why areas such as statistics, full-game film, highlights, player profiles, photography, evaluations and digital promotion are important parts of modern player development.

Every game provides an opportunity to build a basketball résumé.

Every possession becomes film.

Every season becomes part of the player's story.

We want players to understand how to use those opportunities responsibly.

Through the broader NBL platform, players may also become aware of basketball opportunities extending beyond the United States, including markets connected with the Caribbean, Africa, Thailand and the Solomon Islands.

Basketball is global.

Our goal is to prepare Flying Ducks players to think globally as well.

Professionalism Is the Standard

The size of Gueydan should never determine the quality of our standards.

We believe a small-town organization can operate professionally.

That expectation applies to everyone associated with the Flying Ducks.

Players.

Coaches.

Basketball operations.

Ownership.

Game-day staff.

Dance programs.

Media personnel.

Volunteers.

Vendors.

And organizational partners.

Professionalism means communicating clearly.

Showing up when expected.

Being prepared.

Treating people respectfully.

Representing the organization properly.

Following through on commitments.

Maintaining accountability.

And understanding that every interaction helps determine how the Flying Ducks are perceived.

Our standard is simple:

Operate professionally regardless of the size of the market.

We want people who visit Gueydan to be impressed by the organization they encounter.

Gueydan First

The Flying Ducks proudly represent Gueydan, Louisiana.

We want our organization to become deeply connected to the town rather than simply operating inside it.

That means celebrating Gueydan's identity.

Supporting its people.

Working with its businesses.

Participating in community events.

Recognizing longtime supporters.

Creating opportunities for local youth.

And telling the story of our town wherever Flying Ducks basketball takes us.

The Ducks are proud of the community's connection to duck culture, which has influenced our identity through names and phrases such as:

Flying Ducks

Duck Nation

Duck Capital

The Pond

Pack The Pond

These are more than marketing phrases.

They help connect the basketball organization to the community it represents.

We want people throughout Louisiana to eventually hear the words Gueydan Flying Ducks and immediately know exactly where we come from.

Vermilion Parish's Pride

Our responsibility does not stop at Gueydan's town limits.

We want to represent Vermilion Parish.

The Flying Ducks want families, athletes, businesses and communities throughout the parish to feel welcome as part of Duck Nation.

Basketball can bring communities together.

A Flying Ducks home game provides an opportunity for people throughout the parish to come together inside one gym, support the same team and celebrate something connected to the area.

That is why we embrace the message:

Gueydan's Team. Vermilion Parish's Pride.

We want to earn that description through our actions.

Making Gueydan a Basketball Destination

One of our biggest long-term goals is to help make Gueydan a destination for basketball.

That does not mean trying to turn Gueydan into another Houston, New Orleans or Dallas.

Our identity is different.

That difference can become an advantage.

We want visiting players and teams to experience the character of a small Louisiana town while competing in a serious basketball environment.

We want people traveling to Gueydan for Flying Ducks games.

We want families spending time in the community.

We want basketball events helping introduce new people to local restaurants, businesses and attractions.

We want prospective players hearing about The Pond.

We want opponents understanding that playing in Gueydan means entering an environment where the community is behind its team.

The long-term objective is for Flying Ducks basketball to become part of the reason people visit Gueydan.

Building The Pond

Our home at Gueydan High School, known within Duck Nation as The Pond, is central to our vision.

We want The Pond to become a true home-court environment.

Not simply a gym where basketball games happen.

A Flying Ducks game should feel like an event.

Fans should hear music when they arrive.

They should see Flying Ducks branding.

They should interact with our staff.

They should see our dancers perform.

They should have opportunities to purchase merchandise.

They should see local sponsors being recognized.

They should experience halftime entertainment.

Children should have moments they remember.

Players should feel the energy when they step onto the court.

And visiting teams should know immediately that they are playing in Duck Nation.

That is the meaning behind:

#PackThePond

A packed Pond does more than help the basketball team.

It creates community energy.

It gives sponsors exposure.

It creates opportunities for vendors.

It introduces families to the organization.

And it builds traditions.

Creating Opportunities for Our Youth

One of the most important responsibilities of a community sports organization is creating opportunities for young people.

The Flying Ducks want children throughout Gueydan and Vermilion Parish to have opportunities to interact with the organization.

That can happen through basketball camps and clinics.

Youth recognition.

School appearances.

Community service.

Game-day experiences.

Dance programs.

Mentorship.

Player appearances.

And eventually through additional programs that connect young people with sports, leadership and personal development.

Young people should be able to attend Flying Ducks games and see possibilities.

A child may see a basketball player and decide to work harder at basketball.

Another may see a coach and become interested in coaching.

Another may see a photographer on the baseline.

Another may watch the game-day staff.

Another may watch the dancers.

Another may eventually want to work in sports marketing or broadcasting.

A sports organization can introduce young people to an entire world of opportunities.

That is part of our vision.

The Dancing Ducklings

The Dancing Ducklings, our youth dance program for girls ages 5–12, represent an important part of our commitment to young people.

The program gives girls an opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork, performance skills and a connection to their hometown organization.

For some children, performing at a Flying Ducks game may become one of their first experiences participating in an organized sports environment.

We want those experiences to be positive.

We want children to feel proud.

We want parents to feel connected to the organization.

And we want the Dancing Ducklings to become part of the traditions surrounding Flying Ducks basketball.

The Dazzling Duck Divas

Our vision also creates opportunities for adults through the Dazzling Duck Divas, the official adult dance team of the Gueydan Flying Ducks.

The Dazzling Duck Divas are designed to be more than halftime performers.

They are representatives of the organization.

Their role can include game performances, community appearances, special events, promotional content and interaction with fans.

Through the program, women ages 18 and older can continue performing while participating in a professional-style sports entertainment environment.

Together, the Dazzling Duck Divas and Dancing Ducklings help us create a broader organization where basketball is the foundation, but opportunity extends throughout the community.

Community Involvement

The Flying Ducks want to be visible in the community beyond game day.

Community involvement should happen throughout the year.

We envision players, coaches, dancers and staff participating in:

School visits.

Youth events.

Community festivals.

Parades.

Basketball clinics.

Dance clinics.

Charitable initiatives.

Holiday programs.

Community-service projects.

Sponsor events.

Local celebrations.

And other activities important to Gueydan and Vermilion Parish.

We want people to see Flying Ducks representatives and feel that the organization is genuinely part of the community.

Community support cannot be a one-way relationship.

If we ask the community to support us, we must also find meaningful ways to support the community.

Supporting Local Businesses

Local businesses are essential to communities like Gueydan and Vermilion Parish.

That is why business partnerships are an important part of the Flying Ducks vision.

We do not want sponsorship relationships to simply consist of accepting a check and placing a logo somewhere.

We want to create partnerships.

When a business supports the Flying Ducks, we want our fans to know about that business.

We want to promote our partners.

Recognize them on game day.

Feature them through social media.

Create opportunities for promotions.

Encourage Duck Nation to support the businesses that support its hometown team.

Where possible, we want basketball traffic to create additional opportunities for businesses throughout the community.

Our belief is straightforward:

When local businesses and local sports organizations support one another, the entire community can benefit.

Creating Economic Activity

As the Flying Ducks grow, our vision includes contributing to increased activity within Gueydan.

Every visitor who travels into town for a basketball game represents potential activity for local businesses.

Players need meals.

Fans need meals.

Teams travel.

Families purchase fuel.

Visitors may shop locally.

Sponsors entertain guests.

Events create demand.

No single basketball organization transforms a local economy by itself, but successful community events can contribute to economic activity.

That is one reason making Gueydan a basketball destination matters.

Success for the Flying Ducks should create opportunities for more than the people inside the organization.

Giving Fans Something to Call Their Own

Fans are essential to everything we are building.

The Flying Ducks want to create a strong emotional connection between the team and its supporters.

We want children wearing Flying Ducks jerseys to school.

We want families attending games together.

We want supporters proudly displaying Flying Ducks merchandise.

We want people discussing the roster around town.

We want businesses displaying team posters.

We want fans traveling to away games.

We want Duck Nation to feel real.

Professional and college sports demonstrate how teams can become part of a community's identity.

Our goal is to create our own version of that connection in Gueydan.

Not by copying someone else.

By creating traditions that belong to us.

Family

The first of our organizational values is:

FAMILY

Family means understanding that success is shared.

Basketball teams cannot succeed when everyone is only concerned about himself.

Organizations cannot grow when departments refuse to work together.

Communities cannot thrive without people supporting one another.

Within the Flying Ducks, family means supporting teammates.

Communicating.

Being dependable.

Celebrating the success of others.

Helping people through challenges.

And recognizing that everyone has a role.

Players come and go.

Seasons change.

But the relationships created through the organization can last much longer.

Loyalty

Our second value is:

LOYALTY

Loyalty means representing the organization correctly.

We expect people associated with the Flying Ducks to protect the culture being built.

That does not mean avoiding accountability or pretending problems do not exist.

Real loyalty means addressing issues appropriately and working toward solutions.

It means supporting teammates.

Respecting leadership.

Protecting confidential information.

Representing the Ducks professionally in public.

And remembering the people and community that helped make the organization possible.

We believe people should take pride in being associated with the Flying Ducks.

Discipline

Our third value is:

DISCIPLINE

Championships require discipline.

Development requires discipline.

Professionalism requires discipline.

Being talented is not enough.

Players must arrive on time.

Coaches must prepare.

Staff must complete responsibilities.

Everyone must communicate.

Details matter.

Effort matters.

Conditioning matters.

Attitude matters.

How people respond when things become difficult matters.

The Flying Ducks want disciplined people throughout the organization because discipline creates consistency.

And consistency creates sustainable success.

Respect

Our fourth value is:

RESPECT

Respect is required throughout the organization.

Players must respect teammates and coaches.

Coaches must respect players.

Everyone must respect officials.

Opponents deserve respect.

Fans deserve respect.

Sponsors deserve respect.

Facilities deserve respect.

Community partners deserve respect.

And the town whose name we represent deserves respect.

Competition can be intense without becoming disrespectful.

We want Flying Ducks basketball to be known for passion and toughness while maintaining professional behavior.

Diversity of Opportunity

Our vision is not limited to twelve basketball players.

Sports organizations require many different talents.

Coaching.

Athletic development.

Photography.

Videography.

Social media.

Graphic design.

Broadcasting.

Statistics.

Game operations.

Entertainment.

Dance.

Sales.

Sponsorship.

Community relations.

Marketing.

Hospitality.

Event management.

We want the Flying Ducks to gradually create opportunities in these areas as the organization grows.

The next great sports professional from Gueydan may not necessarily be a basketball player.

We want young people to see that there are many ways to build a career around sports.

Telling Gueydan's Story

The Flying Ducks also have an opportunity to help tell the story of the community we represent.

Every social-media post.

Every game broadcast.

Every player signing.

Every press release.

Every photograph.

Every highlight.

Every visiting team.

Every fan who sees our uniforms.

All of these create opportunities for someone to encounter the name Gueydan, Louisiana.

We want to use our platform responsibly.

As the Flying Ducks grow, Gueydan should grow with us.

Remembering Our Beginning

Growth should never make us forget our foundation.

We remember our first game.

We remember our first win.

We remember becoming undefeated champions.

We remember the people who supported us before a championship existed.

We remember the people who opened the doors.

We remember the fans who showed up.

We remember the people who shared the team's content.

We remember everyone who helped establish the Flying Ducks in Gueydan.

Those relationships matter because organizations are built by people.

Our history will always help guide our future.

Building Traditions

Great sports organizations develop traditions.

The Flying Ducks are still young enough that many of our traditions are being created right now.

The Pond.

Duck Nation.

Duck Capital.

Pack The Pond.

Our green, yellow, black and white colors.

Our championship history.

Our community recognition.

Our Memory Lane series.

Our dance programs.

Our game-day atmosphere.

These are the beginnings of traditions that can become stronger each season.

Years from now, we want fans to remember where those traditions started.

Our Long-Term Goal

Ultimately, our goal is to create an organization that lasts.

Not one season.

Not one roster.

Not one championship.

We want the Flying Ducks to become part of the fabric of Gueydan.

We want future players to understand the history of the jersey they are wearing.

We want former players to return to games.

We want former Dancing Ducklings to grow into adult members of the organization.

We want longtime sponsors to be able to say they supported the Ducks from the early years.

We want children who attended games with their parents to eventually bring their own children.

That is what building something lasting looks like.

What Success Looks Like

Success for the Gueydan Flying Ducks will never be measured by one number.

Championships matter.

Player advancement matters.

Attendance matters.

Sponsorship matters.

But true organizational success will also be measured by questions such as:

Are our players becoming better?

Are our players receiving opportunities?

Are families enjoying Flying Ducks games?

Are young people becoming involved?

Are local businesses benefiting from partnerships?

Are we representing Gueydan professionally?

Is Duck Nation growing?

Are we improving every season?

Are we making the community proud?

If the answer to those questions continues to be yes, then the organization is moving in the right direction.

The Future of Duck Nation

The Flying Ducks have already experienced what it feels like to win a championship.

Now we want to build something even larger:

A championship organization.

An organization recognized for developing players.

An organization respected for its professionalism.

An organization supported by its community.

An organization capable of creating opportunities for young people.

An organization that helps promote local businesses.

An organization that gives families something to enjoy.

An organization that represents Vermilion Parish with pride.

And an organization that makes people throughout the basketball world interested in what is happening in a small Louisiana town called Gueydan.

Our journey is just beginning.

OUR MISSION

Develop players. Compete for championships. Serve the community. Create opportunities. Represent Gueydan and Vermilion Parish with pride.

OUR VISION

To establish the Gueydan Flying Ducks as a nationally respected small-market basketball development organization and make Gueydan a destination for championship basketball, player opportunity, community pride and family entertainment.

OUR VALUES

FAMILY

We succeed together.

LOYALTY

We protect the organization, our teammates and the community we represent.

DISCIPLINE

We prepare, work and compete with championship standards.

RESPECT

We represent ourselves, our team and Gueydan professionally.

GUEYDAN FLYING DUCKS

Gueydan's Team. Vermilion Parish's Pride.

Small Town. Big Dreams. Championship Culture.
