DANCING DUCKLINGS

Creating Opportunities for the Next Generation

The Dancing Ducklings are the youth dance program of the Gueydan Flying Ducks.

The program is designed for girls ages 5–12 and gives young participants an opportunity to become part of the Flying Ducks family through dance, performance and teamwork.

The Dancing Ducklings represent a very important part of our long-term community vision.

When children attend a basketball game, they should not only see adults performing.

They should be able to imagine themselves participating one day.

The Dancing Ducklings help make that possible.

More Than Dance

While dance and performance are at the center of the program, the Dancing Ducklings are designed to teach much more.

We want participants to develop:

Confidence

Performing in front of an audience can help young people become more comfortable expressing themselves.

Teamwork

Every dancer has a responsibility to the group.

Learning routines teaches young participants how individual preparation contributes to team success.

Discipline

Practices, routines and performances require focus and preparation.

Responsibility

Participants learn the importance of arriving prepared, following instructions and supporting their teammates.

Friendship

Programs like the Dancing Ducklings can create friendships and memories that extend beyond the basketball season.

Community Pride

Participants get an opportunity to represent the Flying Ducks and their community during games and special events.

Creating a Pathway

One of the most exciting possibilities for the Dancing Ducklings is the opportunity to create a long-term pathway within the organization.

A young girl could begin with the Dancing Ducklings.

Develop her skills.

Grow in confidence.

Continue dancing through school.

And eventually become eligible to pursue a place with the Dazzling Duck Divas once she is old enough.

That gives our organization an opportunity to develop its own traditions and create generational connections.

A future Dazzling Duck Diva may first experience Flying Ducks basketball as a Dancing Duckling.

That is how community programs can become lasting institutions.

Youth Performances at The Pond

The Dancing Ducklings can become an important part of selected Flying Ducks home games.

Performances give participants the excitement of taking the floor in front of fans while also giving family members another reason to attend.

Parents.

Grandparents.

Brothers.

Sisters.

Friends.

Teachers.

When a child performs, an entire network of people may become connected to Flying Ducks basketball.

That helps create a larger community around the team.

Dance Clinics & Development

As the program grows, we want to explore opportunities for dance clinics and developmental sessions that allow young people to learn from experienced dancers and coaches.

These events could introduce participants to areas such as:

Basic dance fundamentals.

Performance skills.

Rhythm.

Team routines.

Confidence.

Fitness.

Sportsmanship.

Game-day preparation.

The goal is to make participation fun while also teaching valuable habits.
